Born and raised in Connemara, Mark Joyce has been painting since childhood. Mark’s style comes from a folk tradition and is influenced by the craftspeople he grew up with - stone carvers and boat builders. He worked in the film industry as a model maker for 5 years and as Mark’s style matured, he began to tell his stories, in a primitive and naïve style. Mark portrays the local coastal villages with their multicoloured houses, and often uses the pier as a focal point in his work. Mark’s ingenious and distinctive paintings are quite unique, and his growing reputation nationwide is richly deserved.
