Born in Co. Tipperary, Janetta married an officer in the French Fleet Air Arm and lived for some time in France. Her son is the sculptor Laurent Mellet and her daughter is the actress, Ashley Mellet. She won the Dun Laoghaire Poetry Prize, while devoting most of her time to painting and is a member of the Dublin Art Society and the Painting and Sketching Club.
