Bridget Ryan was born and raised in the Connemara village of Cornamona on the northern shores of Lough Corrib. She is intrigued by the abandoned farmhouses that surround her in Galway and Mayo. Many of these have survived since famine times and she is inspired by their thick stone walls and their simple solid structure. From such desolation, Bridie, in a bold and primitive style, captures a sense of mystery, and portrays a beauty in these abandoned structures.
