Basil Ivan Rakoczi 1908 - 1979

France was a regular haunt for Rakoczi. His life had been hand to mouth for many years and he relied on exhibitions and friends to buy his paintings. He painted his trademark dream like figures, developed early in his Dublin period, often with many of his classic features, the moon & stars, birds, musical instruments and vases. Frequently, there is a sense of family and friendship in his paintings, music and laughter abound. Following a number of turbulent post war years, he had found a new lover in his life, and also many new friends, who stayed loyal for the rest of his days. Solid and strong colours became a feature of Rakoczi’s work as, literally, he was finding his new feet.
