Joop Smits was born in Eindhoven, Holland in 1938, and was earning a living painting long before the completion of his formal training. He left Holland for Ireland in 1992 where he built a studio and where he continued to develop his distinctive style of landscape painting. Smits has exhibited widely both in Holland and Ireland over the past 30 years.
